Ewe Association Mourns Loss of Esteemed Member, Mr. Hope James Ocloo…..

The Ocloo family, along with the elders and executives of the Ewe Association of Metropolitan Chicago, deeply regret to announce the passing of Mr. Hope James Ocloo earlier this week in Accra, Ghana, after a brief illness.

The announcement was made by the President of the Association, Ms. Carol Amexo, on the association’s WhatsApp platform.

The platform was immediately flooded with heartfelt messages of condolence. Former association president Togbe Clement Timpo wrote, “What a loss and a sad day for the Ewe community in Chicago! May his soul rest in perfect peace. My condolences to the Ocloo family here and in Ghana.” Mr. Wolanyo Agbesi, the association’s linguist, added, “Oh James!! My condolences. May you rest perfect in eternal glory. May your memory be a blessing.”

Dr. Mark Kutame, another past president of the association, expressed, “Our deepest condolences to the family. May his soul rest in perfect peace.” Like many others, Clementine Forson was visibly shocked, writing, “OMG. What! Dear brother, may you rest in eternal peace! God be with the family and guide them during this sad moment.” The immediate past president, Mr. Steve Dei, also in shock, penned, “Oh no, may his soul rest in peace. So sorry to hear that. My condolences.”

Mr. Ocloo served as the former website coordinator and manager for both the Ewe Association and the Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) for many years. At the time of his passing, he was also the website manager for the Past Students of Ola Secondary School in North America (POGA). His consistent attendance at CEANA Conventions and Ewe Association events in Chicago highlighted his dedication and involvement in the community.

How To Get Tested For COVID-19

If you develop any symptoms or think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, call your doctor and ask if you need to be tested. Your doctor will either perform the test at their office or will refer you to a testing site. If you don’t have a health care provider or medical insurance, there are approximately 165 community health centers throughout Chicago, so find one that is close to you at findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov. Call ahead and they will work with you to coordinate appropriate care.

Get tested if:

You have symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever or chills, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea
You have been in contact with someone who is ill, especially if it’s someone you live with, a friend or a coworker
You have been in a high-risk group setting like a large gathering or crowded space
You have recently traveled to a high-risk area

Please note that different testing sites might have different requirements. We recommend calling in advance or checking online first. The City has opened four testing sites throughout Chicago that bring testing to communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 global pandemic. Additionally, the City is partnering with community based organization to pilot multiple mobile testing sites. Please review the scheduled hours of operation.

All tests at the City testing sites are free and all people regardless of citizenship status can be tested. Residents who are looking to be tested can register on site or online at ChicagoCovidTesting.com.

People of all ages can get sick with COVID-19 and it’s important for everyone to take preventative measures. However, older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes are at higher risk for developing serious complications from COVID-19 illness and need to take extra precautions.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way for all Chicagoans to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 is to practice good hand hygiene, stay 6ft from others and wear a face covering when going out in public.

Know How it Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 primarily spreads between people in close contact when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. You might also get the virus if you touch something with the virus on it, and then touch your mouth, nose, or eyes.

Follow These Guidelines
- Wash your hands oftenwith soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- Put 6ft distance or morebetween yourselves and others when in public
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
- Clean and disinfect frequentlytouched surfaces daily, like doorknobs, light switches, phones, and faucets
- Monitor your health daily and watch for symptoms of COVID-19
- If you’re sick, stay homeexcept to get medical care

Chigago:DFSS CDGA Information

Dear DFSS Delegate Agencies,

Due to the COVID-19 emergency, the City of Chicago is extending through December 31, 2021 all contracts awarded to delegate agencies under the FY2018 Community Development Grant Application (CDGA) process. These contracts went through a competitive bidding process in spring 2018, with a contract term from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020 and a one-year extension option. Please refer to the bottom of this text for a list of programs released through the FY2018 CDGA.

Typically, the CDGA package of requests for proposal would have been released for bid this spring – however, as we are all under immense pressure to continue providing critical services to Chicagoans, it will be postponed until 2021.

Because of this, delegate agency contracts under CDGA will be extended through December 31, 2021. Delegate agencies will need to complete the required contract documents and submit to DFSS for review and approval. DFSS will provide these documents as well as a timeline for that process later this year. Please direct any questions you may have to the assigned liaison for your contract.
