Since time immemorial, when politics clashes with religion, it sparks fire.
The matter of the National Cathedral has refused to die down and the court of public opinion has decided that this matter will not rest until the government of the day comes clear on what is going on regarding the use of public funds for a project that we are told should have been a private endeavor.
Our Father in heaven, I believe will have been seeing the drama unfold and smiling to himself. It should be clear that a cross-section of Ghanaians believe that this project is a worthy one. However, when it appears as if an unworthy tactic is used to pursue a worthy venture, it becomes difficult to defend it. The overwhelming majority is simply saying, let things matter be done properly and in order.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for some time now has been doing a lot of surveillance as far as government expenditure is concerned. The fact on the ground is that He has constantly been outspoken about the government’s s financial dealings and has constantly raised the alarm when he finds an anomaly. A quick fact check will reveal this position. Tracking the expenditure incurred in the president’s air travels is one of them.
This article is not to support Sammy or condemn Rev Kusi Boateng but to try to let you understand how the society we have built behaves when a politician clashes with the clergy and the powerful. These are my opinions on the matter at hand
We have to understand that Sammy Okudzeto Ablakwa is just doing his job as enshrined in the constitution. Indeed, one of the responsibilities of an MP, and all citizens for that matter is to hold the government accountable on all matters because governance is a public trust. That should be clear. So the insults and name-calling would not help matters.
The very respected Prophet is been dragged into this matter because he decided to also contribute his quota to national development. So, I guess when the president asked him to join the board for a NATIONAL CATHEDRAL, why not?
Therefore, criticizing him and maligning him is neither here nor there. If you really have good intentions for your country and you are sure you have the capacity, will you refuse a presidential call to work for God and country?
It should also be clear and lessons should be learned by those who want to contribute to national development, thereby serving on boards and committees that if money is involved in the work, you will be assigned to, the public will be interested.
You can be as pious as the pope but if it comes to money, the public will scrutinize your doings.
All the noise going around now is because the person Sammy is ‘touching’ is a clergyman and a powerful one for that matter. Rev Kusi Boateng is not a small name in the corner. So, if you touch such a person, expect sparks. The fact is that if this issue were to be about any fellow politician or the average Ghanaian, this rush will not be seen.
I want to believe and hope that Sammy, did his research well and double-checked and counter-checked before releasing this bomb. This is critical because if he did not do it, then he would not help matters at all. As diligent as he is, I just hope that he did due diligence. If not, he would just damage a reputation and that will surely have repeal effects.
When you are touching those who have followers, you need to be extra careful. This is because people will be affected directly and indirectly. Those of us who are die-hard defenders of truth and the body of Christ for that matter know the implications of this issue.
Matters of financial or moral scandals since time immemorial have weakened the faith of others and discouraged many. Read a little about Jim Baker, and Jimmy Swaggart you have an idea of the effects of scandals on the body of Christ. I sincerely hope we don’t get there
I sincerely hope that this will not end badly for both of them. Honestly, that is what I wish. The young politician believes that he has seen an issue that needs to be exposed, and like I said earlier this is consistent with his work as an MP. The great man of God has also responded. According to him, what the MP is saying can never be true. Let’s see how it goes.
If it goes in favor of Sammy, there will be serious consequences for us in the clergy but we will come strong as always. Rev Kusi Boateng is a man and we should understand that no man is infallible. We indeed expect men of honor to do honorable things but sometimes it does not go that way. If indeed the finding attests to what the MP is saying, then the Prophet of God has to apologize to the Body of Christ.
If it goes in favor of Rev Kusi Boateng, then Sammy will have to bear the brunt and apologize copiously to the revered man of God and to the church of which he is also a member.
This matter has also gained a serious NDC and NPP political tone. Instead of allowing truth to prevail in the end, Rev Kusi Boateng has suddenly become a chewing stick for some supporters of the NDC.
Can Sammy survive this?

Some supporters of NPP, even if they don’t like church, have suddenly become Christ conscious at least in speech, all because they don’t like Sammy Okudzeto Ablakwa. These are the people I fear most as this matter rages. They are the people I refer to as the Mixed Multitude in Biblical days.
They will muddy the waters for their own political or religious reasons. One divide will put all preachers in one bucket and heap insults on us. In fact, they have started doing it. The other divide will start raining insults on Sammy and start playing the victim. Some members of the NPP will start developing some form of fake love for God and start defending men of God because it will put them in a good shape before people. Those who never liked church will continue to dislike church and always use this issue to justify their position.
Every society thrives on the news. Even if there is no new news, the topic for discussion will be, 7 reasons why there is no news. So, this is fresh news but as a people, I definitely know that when mightier news arises, this one may be forgotten. Just watch it and see.
I remember when pictures of pygamas were all over social media and people were for or against a top politician’s sexual encounter with a side chick. You will think that was the mother of all issues. It didn’t take long for the pygamus to disappear when another piece of news arose. That is Ghana for you.
Everybody is talking now. Even those who have done worse things will be loud all because they have not been caught. Do you have something in your life that if exposed can have a scary consequence on your life? If you have, please expose it by yourself before it exposes you. I am equally checking my life and finding things I need to expose to the mighty light of Christ.
Will Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa survive this? Lord, thou knowest! In the end, may TRUTH prevail in Jesus’ mighty name.
For the Love of God, society, and young people
Blessings
