Accra, Ghana – The Kuenyehia Trust for Contemporary Art has announced its eighth edition of the prestigious Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Art, inviting West African visual artists to compete for a total prize money of $10,000.
Eligible artists aged 18-40 can submit their work in various mediums, including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, carvings, and installations, until December 22, 2024. The winner will be selected by an independent jury based on their artistic statement and trajectory of work, with the announcement scheduled for February 2025.
Beyond the monetary prize, shortlisted artists will benefit from the Trust’s Creative Accelerator Programme, providing intensive training, mentoring, and exposure to global best practices. They will also have opportunities to participate in local and international exhibitions and fairs.
Established by Professor Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, the Kuenyehia Prize aims to identify, reward, and promote outstanding African artists, showcasing excellence in contemporary African art. Past winners and shortlisted artists have gained international recognition, showcasing their work at leading art fairs and exhibitions in South Africa, the United States, and Spain.
