Chicago, IL — In a closely contested election that reflects the vibrancy of Ghanaian diaspora democracy, Mr. Effah Ameyaw has been elected President of the Ghana National Council (GNC), securing victory by a narrow 7–6 vote margin.
Joining him in leadership is Vice President-elect Caresse Ethel Adongo, who will serve alongside Mr. Ameyaw in a new administration set to begin in January 2026. The elected team will serve a three-year term, guiding the Council through a pivotal chapter of growth, unity, and renewed engagement.
The election, held under the watchful eyes of council and community stakeholders, was a testament to the passion and civic commitment of all candidates. Dr. Eunice Cromwell and Mr. Davidson Zigah, both of whom brought vision, experience, and deep community ties to the race, mounted a formidable campaign and lost by the slimmest of margins.
“This was not just an election, it was a reaffirmation of our collective investment in the future of the Ghanaian community in North America,” said an observer. “All candidates demonstrated courage, conviction, and a shared love for our community .”
As the dust settles, the focus now shifts to collaboration, healing, and progress. The GNC calls on all members, supporters, and affiliates to rally behind the newly elected leadership and continue building a Council that reflects the dignity, diversity, and dynamism of the Ghanaian diaspora.
