I understand the frustration—and even the sense of betrayal—that some within our ranks may feel. It is valid to acknowledge the immense sacrifices made by party loyalists and grassroots members. Their dedication is the bedrock of our movement, and their concerns must never be dismissed.
However, framing every appointment solely through the lens of personal reward or suspicion risks derailing our collective progress.
Beyond Reward: A Strategic Imperative
Yes, many have toiled with heart and grit, often without direct recognition. But appointments like that of the woman in question are not merely about compensating past efforts—they’re about positioning the NDC for future success.
President Mahama, as party leader, holds a unique vantage point. His constitutional mandate affords him the latitude to make decisions grounded in strategic foresight, political realities, and national interest. These choices often consider broader dynamics, technical competence, and evolving priorities that may not always be visible from the grassroots level.
Loyalty and Competence: Not a Dichotomy
The suggestion that this woman might be a “mole” or threat to the NDC’s future is a dangerous narrative. While skepticism has its place, we must be careful not to descend into paranoia. To assume that an “innocent demeanor” cloaks a hidden agenda—absent any credible evidence—is to risk alienating talent and potential allies.
True loyalty also means trusting our leadership’s judgment, particularly when exercised with accountability and purpose. Competence and strategic value are not threats to loyalty—they are its necessary partners.
A Spectrum of Contributions, A Shared Reward
Different roles demand different strengths. While the sacrifices of foot soldiers are invaluable, so too are the fresh perspectives, networks, and expertise others may bring. This isn’t a dismissal of grassroots work—it’s a call to recognize that nation-building is a team sport with varied positions.
The idea that no one else can be appointed until all foot soldiers are rewarded is not only impractical—it is divisive. Our focus must shift from transactional expectations to transformational outcomes.
Unity in Purpose
The ultimate reward for every committed party member should be the restoration of the NDC to power and the elevation of Ghana. If President Mahama believes this appointment contributes meaningfully to that goal, then it serves all who have sacrificed for the cause.
Let’s direct our energy towards cohesion, not suspicion. Let’s build bridges within, not burn them. Our shared strength lies in unity—not uniformity.
