Ace Journalist and Social commentator, Ben Dotsei Malor, paid a glorious tribute to the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah on the 51st anniversary of the death of the founding father of Ghana. We reproduce the tribute in its entirety below.

ON THIS DAY, IN 1972, GHANA’S FOUNDING PRESIDENT KWAME NKRUMAH DIED IN BUCHAREST, ROMANIA. He died away from the land he loved and sacrificed everything for. He died rejected, unappreciated, and vilified.… Ben recounts.
*
Today, there is no mansion, no piece of land, and no hefty foreign bank accounts that bear the name of this selfless, bold, and visionary Pan-Africanist leader. He never tried to shift quick development to his hometown, Nkroful, or his Western Region, at the expense of collective national good. Yes, he made SOME mistakes, trusted too much, and misjudged certain situations and people. But not even his enemies would deny that HE GAVE HIS ALL.
*
WE MUST ASK TODAY:
Was Nkrumah a fool for giving his all to the people, who then betrayed, condemned, and vilified him?
Was Nkrumah a fool for not leaving any ill-gotten wealth for his children and family?
Was Nkrumah a fool for placing Ghana and Africa above his own needs and aspiration.
**
Was Nkrumah naive to believe and pursue the vision of a United Africa?
Was Nkrumah too lofty in saying “the African is capable of running his or her own affairs”?
Was Nkrumah too trusting, too nice, too ambitious and too much of a dreamer?

CAN IT BE SAID OF ANY OF OUR CURRENT LEADERS, POLITICIANS, PASTORS, IMAMS, CHIEFS, PUBLIC OFFICIALS:

  1. He gave his all. She gave her all. She was selfless / He was selfless?
  2. He/She was human and flawed but he/she sacrificed all they had – including their lives – for the good of millions and generations to come?
  3. She was never in it for money, fame, fortune or power. He did not do it for power, fortune, or fame?
    CAN WE?
LESSONS – WE NEED TO LEARN?
    LESSONS WE NEED TO APPLY?
