The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia, has chosen Dr. Matthew OpokuPrempeh, the current Energy Minister and Manhyia South Lawmaker, as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.
Dr. Bawumia informed President Akufo-Addo of his decision during a meeting on the night of June 25th. He is expected to formally announce this choice to the NPP Council of Elders by the end of the week, with a public announcement anticipated by early next month.
This decision follows a survey conducted by the National Investigation Bureau, which showed strong support for Dr.Opoku Prempeh among NPP delegates. The survey, which included 5,116 NPP delegates from various levels of the party, revealed that Dr. Opoku Prempeh received 76.2% of the votes from the executives polled.
