Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, has reiterated his pledge to ensure a peaceful and violence-free 2024 general election in Ghana.
During a press briefing in Accra on Sunday, August 25, Dr. Bawumia stressed the need to safeguard citizens throughout the electoral process and avoid any loss of life.
He voiced concern about the rise of inflammatory rhetoric on campaign platforms and urged for a shift towards constructive political dialogue.
“I want to reaffirm my commitment to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections this December. The pursuit of political power should not be an end in itself but should be driven by the desire to improve lives and make Ghana a better place for all of us,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia expressed alarm over the growing trend of provocative language and threats from some quarters, warning against the potential for violence if power is not granted to certain groups.
“No one benefits from violence and chaos. It must be emphasized that no Ghanaian blood should be shed for political power,” he added.
The NPP candidate also underscored the party’s focus on presenting their ideas constructively and maintaining a high standard of campaign conduct.
“Our party is committed to highlighting our ideas and proving our competence over any other party. We pledge to run a campaign based on ideas and conduct ourselves in a manner befitting a democratic process,” he concluded.
