Oliver Barker-Vormawor apologized profusely to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for a Facebook post that suggested members of the committee take bribes before approving ministerial nominees. He assured the committee that he would pull down the post, which contained unsubstantiated allegations.
Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers also denied any connection between their client and allegations of bribery involving majority members of the committee. Lead counsel Nana Ato Dadzie stated, “The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr. Vormawor. He never posted that statement.”
However, Dadzie explained that another post on Barker-Vormawor’s Facebook page was meant to inform the public about reports that had come to his attention. The post in question alleged that NDC members on the Appointments Committee took bribes from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them.
Dadzie emphasized that the post was not intended to tarnish the reputation of the committee members. This development highlights the importance of verifying information on social media to avoid spreading misinformation and damaging reputations.
