On Friday, November 21, 2025, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) undertook a direct, high-level engagement at Accra’s bustling Makola Market.

Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni and other Bank staff, visited the site to connect with the nation’s real economy, hearing firsthand from traders and market women whose daily transactions reflect Ghana’s economic pulse. The core purpose of the visit was for Dr. Asiama to directly discuss the traders’ activities and overall wellbeing while gaining on-the-ground insights into their operations.

During the visit, the Governor and his delegation received honest and insightful feedback on several key macroeconomic indicators affecting the traders’ commerce. Discussions focused specifically on the performance of the cedi, the perceived easing or persistence of inflationary pressures, and other ongoing structural challenges impacting the market environment. Crucially, the visit was also utilized as a platform for a public education drive, as Dr. Asiama took the opportunity to promote awareness and appreciation for the currency, urging the traders to handle banknotes responsibly to uphold their value and lifespan.

The central bank strongly emphasized that this direct connection is fundamental to its mandate, stating that such practical feedback is vital for its mission to “anchor stability in real lives.” This initiative underscores the BoG’s commitment to transparency and incorporating ground-level realities into its decision-making, acknowledging that the micro-level experiences of the market traders offer a critical perspective often missing from high-level economic data.

The direct presence of Governor Asiama and Deputy Governor Mumuni at Makola signals a serious dedication to ensuring that the positive outcomes of its policies translate into tangible, improved conditions for ordinary citizens and businesses.
