Dear Osagyefo,
Honestly, I can barely keep up with the daily drama anymore! My grand plan for a weekly blog is in tatters because the news in the Republic moves at warp speed. So, what’s today’s installment? We have a new “gentle lady” in the headlines, and for once, it’s not Mama Pat. This time, it’s a self-proclaimed medical doctor, supposedly from Johns Hopkins, who was somehow appointed by government officials as a medical insurance expert.
How on earth did the entire government miss that this woman’s only credential was an HHA certificate? It’s genuinely mind-boggling. Legitimate medical provider especially doctors, have a unique state identification, and a quick Google search reveals their professional information. The U.S. system even boasts a national provider identification system.
Apparently, someone’s vetting process consisted entirely of admiring photographs of this individual striking a pose with a stethoscope and a pristine white lab coat. If donning a white coat and a doctor’s chain is all it takes to land a government portfolio, then half the Halloween costume aisle in the USA just became overqualified.
The ultimate accountability rests with the President, given his authority to delegate. Consider the current situation: Kwabena Minka Akando serves as the Minister of Health despite not possessing a medical degree. Conversely, Dr. Omane Boamah, a qualified medical professional, is now charged with the president’s security. This undeniably illustrates the problematic trend of deploying individuals in roles for which their expertise is ill-suited. It is reminiscent of the previous administration’s decisions, such as placing a heart surgeon in charge of environmental affairs and a chartered accountant at the helm of public health.
Was it the Foreign Minister, Mr. Ablakwa’s duty to verify the credentials of this alleged Johns Hopkins medical officer? This query becomes particularly pertinent given that Adenta Kumi was charged with publishing false news regarding the supposed Supreme Court judges’ meeting. One anticipates, with a certain level of expectation, a “Rambo-style” visit from national security to Ms. Daly’s residence.
In this day and age, saying “appearance can take you to places” isn’t an understatement; it’s practically an operating manual.
I’m embarrassed,
