Asantehene Returns to Kumasi Following Successful Caribbean State Visits
The city of Kumasi enthusiastically welcomed the return of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on November 27, 2025, following his successful diplomatic mission to the Caribbean. The monarch had just completed three-day state visits to both the Republic of Suriname and Barbados, engagements that are expected to further strengthen the cultural and historical ties between the Ashanti Kingdom and these nations. These visits underscore the Asantehene’s continued role as a key cultural and diplomatic figure, bridging continents and fostering international goodwill for Ghana and the Ashanti people.
The monarch’s arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport was met with a formal and elaborate reception, befitting his status. A distinguished delegation of high-ranking chiefs and officials was on hand to welcome him back. Prominent among those present were the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, supported by the Otumfuo Akyeame, the Tredehene, the Konahene, and numerous other prominent Nananom Kumasi Abrempong and Ahemaa (chiefs and queen mothers). This gathering of traditional leaders highlighted the cultural significance and widespread anticipation of the Asantehene’s return.
Adding to the esteemed traditional representation was the presence of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) team, signaling the importance of the Asantehene’s return to the regional administration. The REGSEC delegation was led by Michael Owusu Amoako, the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC). The coordinated presence of both the highest traditional authorities and the top regional government officials underscores the profound respect and strategic importance the Asantehene commands in the Ashanti Region and across Ghana.
