Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has paid his respects to the late Mion Lana, Abdullai III, by attending the final funeral rites held at Sambu (Mion) on May 29 and 30, 2025. The late Mion Lana passed away on August 17, 2022, after a short illness.
Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, paid tribute to the late chief’s contributions to peace efforts in Dagbon. He praised the Mion Lana’s role in finding a solution to the Dagbon crises, particularly his acceptance of a special solution that allowed the then Savelugu Naa to become Ya Na Mahama Abukari II.
The former president expressed gratitude to the late Mion Lana and his brother, Yoo Naa Yakubu Andani, for their understanding and cooperation in bringing peace to Dagbon. Akufo-Addo extended his deepest condolences to the Ya Na, the regent of Mion, and the people of Dagbon, praying for the late Mion Lana’s soul to rest in peace.
