A group of aggrieved customers of the defunct gold dealership company, Menzgold, have demanded a GH₵200 million bailout from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Minister of Finance. According to the group, about 230 customers have lost their lives since 2020, when they first made the call for a bailout .
The customers claim that the seized assets of Menzgold can serve as a form of guarantee for the bailout. They are aware of the ongoing criminal case against Menzgold’s CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah, at the Accra High Court and have cooperated with the Office of the Attorney General.
The group wants the President and Minister of Finance to respond to their request by the end of Monday, November 25. They have threatened to vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if their demand is not met.
Meanwhile, Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, is appealing the trial court’s dismissal of his Submission of No Case and has filed a Stay of Proceedings at the High Court. The court had ordered him to open his defense to charges against him after dismissing his submission.
The case against NAM1 and his companies, Menzgold and Brew Marketing Consult, has been ongoing, with the prosecution presenting compelling evidence against him. The court has adjourned the trial to Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
