Los Angeles is set to host a vibrant celebration of African music and culture at the Levitt Los Angeles on Saturday, August 9. The event, Afro Funke’ Africa, will feature electrifying performances, DJ sets, and live music from the continent. The celebration will showcase a lineup of talented artists, including Blaq Pages, Novena Carmel, Wazumbians, and Africa in America, among others.
The event will take place from 7 PM to 10 PM and will be hosted by the legendary Rocky Dawuni, a 4x GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian musician, activist, and global ambassador of African music and culture. Rocky will also be celebrating the release of his new single and video, “I Got a Song,” featuring Cedella Marley.
Wazumbians, a Ghanaian group, will deliver a modern take on Afrobeat and highlife with infectious grooves and powerful social messages. Africa in America will bring the heartbeat of Africa to the stage with passion and precision through electrifying choreography, live drumming, and cultural storytelling. DJ Novena Carmel will spin a global mix of soul, funk, Afrobeat, and rare grooves that move the body and lift the spirit.
The event is free and open to all ages, with picnics welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends, family, blankets, and snacks to enjoy the festivities. An after-party event will also take place at Blaq Page’s “Afrobeats to the World” event at Don Quixote in DTLA from 10pm to 2am.
