Accra, Ghana – Africa World Airlines (AWA) has indicated it will reduce airfares by the end of June 2025, a move aimed at making air travel more accessible and affordable for its customers. The anticipated price drop aligns with the recent stability of the Ghanaian cedi against major international currencies, particularly the US dollar.
Godfred Essel, AWA’s Brands and Communications Manager, hinted at the upcoming reductions during a soiree held to announce the airline’s new direct route from Accra to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. “We are currently working on something,” Mr. Essel stated.
“Hopefully, before the month ends, we’ll come up with new reduced fares.”
Beyond affordability, AWA emphasized its consistent prioritization of safety, which has contributed to its reputation as a reliable airline in the region. Mr. Essel underscored this commitment, explaining that the airline takes significant time to assess weather conditions before flying to ensure passenger safety, even if it means occasional delays.
This safety-first approach has resulted in an impressive 12-year track record of prioritizing passenger well-being. In addition to the fare reductions, AWA announced the commencement of scheduled flights to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, starting July 1, 2025.
Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, David Kabre, expressed enthusiasm for the new direct service, anticipating enhanced trade and partnerships between the two nations. Mr. Essel highlighted the new route’s efficiency and cost-effectiveness, noting that AWA offers the cheapest direct flights to Ouagadougou, starting at $290, saving passengers significant travel time compared to connecting flights.
