Kwame Owusu Danso, the Vice-Presidential nominee for the Afrafanto Alliance, has launched a scathing attack on Ghana’s current economic situation, laying the blame squarely at the feet of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at his acceptance ceremony in Accra, Danso asserted that the economy was grossly mismanaged under both John Mahama’s NDC government and Nana Akufo-Addo’s NPP administration. He emphasized that Ghanaians are now yearning for a new direction, one that will be spearheaded by the visionary leadership of Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Afrafanto Alliance.

Danso reminisced about Ghana’s once-thriving economy, highlighting the impressive 14.3% growth rate achieved under the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, thanks to oil revenue. However, he expressed frustration that this momentum was lost under former President John Mahama, who took Ghana to the IMF after the economy faltered.

The current economic situation, Danso noted, is even more dire. “Prices of basic commodities are skyrocketing, and the cedi is in free fall. Ghana’s economy is teetering on the brink of collapse.” He also accused Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of failing in his role as head of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, pointing out that Bawumia’s promises of economic stability have not yielded the desired results.

Danso offered a stark warning: “The possibility of the dollar rate reaching GHS 50, the inflation rate crossing 100%, and Ghana’s public debt stock reaching GHS 2 trillion under his leadership is real.”

The Afrafanto Alliance, Danso declared, presents a clear alternative to both the NPP and NDC. “We cannot continue to accept leaders who put their personal interests ahead of the well-being of the people. We need a new vision, one that focuses on job creation, economic empowerment, and a sustainable future.”

Danso pledged his unwavering support for Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformational Plan, describing it as the only viable solution to Ghana’s current woes. “What we propose is not a mere continuation of the status quo. We propose a complete overhaul – one that is based on sustainable growth and economic empowerment for all Ghanaians.”

He concluded with a rallying call to all Ghanaians: “This is our time. Together, we will rebuild our nation with hope, courage, perseverance, and resolve. Movement for Change, Ghana will rise again!”
