A high-stakes drama is unfolding in Ghana’s Parliament, where activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has been summoned to provide evidence for his explosive bribery allegations against members of the Appointments Committee. The accusations, made on the eve of the vetting of Defense Minister-designate , Dr. Omane Boamah, have sparked widespread public interest and outcry.

According to Barker-Vormawor, some committee members demand bribes or other favors from nominees before their vetting sessions. However, Chairman of the Appointments Committee and 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, has vehemently denied these claims, dismissing them as baseless and harmful to the committee’s reputation.

Mr. Ahiafor has directed the Clerk of the Committee to invite Barker-Vormawor to appear before the committee on January 29 to substantiate his allegations. “I request Oliver Barker-Vormawor to provide evidence for his claims,” Ahiafor said, emphasizing that committee members do not demand money from nominees before vetting them.

Barker-Vormawor, known for his critical stance on government actions, has yet to respond to the summons. The development has raised questions about transparency in the parliamentary vetting process, and all eyes are on Barker-Vormawor to provide concrete evidence to support his claims.
