On Wednesday 6AUG2025, a disaster pierced its sharpest spear in our hearts. Ghana is grieving the tragic death of 8 gallant patriots through a helicopter crash as the world consoles.
Selina Gomez prayed for God to “Heal Ghana” in her soothing song as Families continue to shed tears of blood. Friends are obliterated and devastated, while the millions of admirers in Ghana and beyond, are disoriented and depressed.
Some gigantic pillars have melted; behemoth oak and baobab trees have fallen, and some of the “pots” that bear repository to wisdom, altruism, patriotism, diligence and obedience were engulfed by ashes.
The late DR. EDWARD OMANE-BOAMAH is one of those valors I wish to pay this solemn tribute for his brilliance, excellence and most importantly, his innovation and adherence to the “Body-Cam” principle in life.
THE BIRTH OF “BODY-CAM” PRINCIPLE
I became a fan of Dr. Omane Boamah upon learning that he once worked at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where I cut my professional umbilical cord. He held various ministerial portfolios during the late President Atta Mills and John Mahama regimes, where he performed creditably.
His government went into opposition in 2016 and he was appointed the Director of Elections for the 2024 elections. A challenging appointment that requires his supervision to enact administrative, physical and technological infrastructures to counteract his opponents machinations at the polls.
Among those measures, his choice of the code-name “Body-Camera” in their operations was very sentimental to me and instrumental for the political change Ghana was yearning.
DR. OMANE—THE STRATEGIST
In the heat of the 2024 presidential elections which the then opposition was destined to win to catalyze their sacred “RESET” agenda, Dr. Omane-Boamah and his echelons allegedly suspected some electoral rigging ploys from the incumbent party. In defiance, he strategically ordered all his polling station officials and the party securities to “ACTIVATE ALL BODY-CAMS..for evidence!
“BODY-CAM”—REAL OR FAKE?
It appeared Dr. Omane-Boamah’s “Body-Cam” activation order was effective to thwart the die-hard shenanigans of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—the then ruling party. His party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) eventually won by an unprecedented landslide tallies after the contest.
Many were those who doubted if the NDC had actually procured physical body-cameras for all their officials; especially, when this writer and million others have not sighted any post-electoral body-cam footages from any polling station.
DECODING THE “BODY-CAM” PRINCIPLE
Folks, be it real or fake; decoy, camouflage or “operational repellant”, the meaning and value of the code-name was best known to the master tactician Dr. Omane-Boamah and his executives. However, in my spectacles, the “activation of the body-cam” concept as propounded by him, permeates the surface!
It denotes vigilance, deterrence, steadfastness, dutifulness, foresightedness and success. From my personal microscopic “body-cam”, those were the cardinal traits I found in the DNA strands of Dr. Omane Boamah—an industrious Son of Ghana, whose “Body-cam” has reached the maximum operational capacity to record further in life.
He was an adorable Defense Minister who fought hard to usher a new government to power and “activated” the country on a lineal path of development and prosperity. His fortitude is among the reasons why Ghana is being showered with glittering opportunities to reclaim withered economic glories in a peaceful and secured atmosphere.
Dr. Omane Boamah was father who fiercely safeguarded the “Mission Accomplished” banner with pride and dignity, even before the battle begins.
A meticulous physician who goes beyond superficial signs and symptoms for accurate diagnoses and treatments. He was one of the obedient braves who responded to “Duty Call” in defense of the LAND to the perils of their lives. They fought a good battle until the Creator beckoned for a peaceful rest in eternity.
Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, you couldn’t read my letter seeking support for 37 Military Hospital but “I saw you” in the footage from your everlasting “Body-Cam”.
In that footage, you and the other compatriots took the final salute from your Commander-in-Chief, the Officers and Men you led, your beloved family and the heart-broken general public in dignity and pride as the World eulogized your excellence, visionary and selfless attributes.
In your memory, we shall keep your ACTIVATED BODY-CAMS alive perpetually!
