Today, the forecourt of the State House in Accra was filled with mourners who gathered to bid farewell to Madam Deborah Wengam, a woman of remarkable virtue and the mother of Reverend Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana. The burial service, attended by thousands, including dignitaries like former President John Agyekum Kufuor and President John Dramani Mahama, was a testament to Madam Wengam’s impact on her community and beyond.
As the casket carrying Madam Wengam’s remains was opened for public viewing, the clergy, Women’s Ministry of Assemblies of God, and other invited guests filed past, paying their respects. The police band provided solemn music, setting the tone for a ceremony that would celebrate Madam Wengam’s life and legacy.
Tributes poured in from family members, friends, and leaders of the Assemblies of God Church, all echoing the same sentiment: Madam Wengam was a woman of exceptional character, whose devotion to her faith, family, and community inspired countless lives. Reverend Wengam, in his eulogy, remembered his mother as a pillar of strength, who instilled in him values of humility, proper behavior, and emotional intelligence.
President Mahama, in his tribute, described Madam Wengam as a good woman, blessed by God, who raised a remarkable son in Reverend Wengam. He praised her for being a role model and a source of inspiration to many.
As the mourners said their final goodbyes, the legacy of Madam Deborah Wengam lived on, a reminder of the transformative power of faith, family, and community. A Thanksgiving service is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Cedar Mountain Chapel in East Legon, a fitting conclusion to a celebration of a life well-lived.
