Beneath the silent gaze of the heavens, a noble son of the Ghanaian community in Chicago answered the ancestral summons.
In response, the community gathered—not in mourning alone, but in celebration of a life that touched many and stood tall among us.
Clad in red and black, symbols of our reverence and grief, the community braved even the summer’s fierce heat to show that unity is stronger than any season. No distance, no weather, no barrier could keep them from honoring one of their own. Over 500 people attended the event.
Amid prayers and tributes, traditional groups stepped forward—bearing monetary gifts and offerings of comfort, not just for the family but for the legacy of the one now at rest. Their presence was not only generous but symbolic: a testament to the power of belonging.
And so, once more we extend this invitation: let those still walking alone find a place among us—in our churches and our associations. Step off the sidelines and register with an association today! If this funeral teaches us anything, it’s that no one should journey through life in solitude. In unity, we find strength; in community, we find healing and unwavering support.
Mr. Kwasi Poku, you were carried home by a people who remember, honor, and will never forget your deeds.
Pictures that captured this graceful farewell are shared below—images not only of ceremony but of love, loyalty, and lineage.
Wɔfa Poku da yie. You did not walk alone.
