A Passion Air domestic flight from Accra to Takoradi was forced to return to Kotoka International Airport just 15 minutes after takeoff on Saturday morning. Passengers initially claimed the aircraft had insufficient fuel to complete the journey, sparking concerns about aviation safety standards.
However, PassionAir officials later clarified that the mid-air turnaround was due to a technical issue unrelated to fuel supply. According to the airline, the crew returned to Accra as a safety precaution after experiencing the technical fault shortly after departure. The nature of the technical issue was not specified.
The flight, OP122, departed Accra at approximately 6:20 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Takoradi at 7:15 a.m. While passengers were initially told to return to Accra without explanation, they were informed upon landing that the plane lacked sufficient fuel, according to passenger accounts on social media.
PassionAir has not released an official statement addressing the passenger claims but confirmed the technical issue was the cause of the return. The incident has raised questions about pre-flight safety checks and operational procedures, with many calling for a thorough investigation.
