Accra, Ghana – Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has emphasized that every sector of the economy deserves equal attention in terms of developing the country. Speaking during a media engagement in Parliament, Ayariga noted that Parliament uses its Committee System to check the work of the Executive and its agencies.
The Bawku Central Member of Parliament highlighted the importance of Parliament’s oversight role, stating that all Committees are required to submit reports on their activities for further actions to be taken. This, he said, is crucial for Parliament to successfully exercise its oversight duties and ensure accountability in governance.
On the issue of climate change, Ayariga pointed to the government’s appointment of Mr. Issifu Seidu as Minister of State in charge of Climate Change and Sustainability as evidence of its commitment to tackling the challenge. He added that the Minister has already reviewed policies on climate change from other countries to inform Ghana’s approach.
In a related development, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei addressed concerns about the Minority Caucus’s actions regarding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Appiagyei stated that the Minority’s actions were aimed at ensuring democracy is not jeopardized, rather than disrupting government business.
