Bolingbrook, Illinois: The Mmrantie Association is leading a compassionate charge toward mental wellness. May being Mental Health Awareness Month, the association hosted a town hall meeting in Bolingbrook, Illinois, to educate, empower, and combat the enduring stigma surrounding mental health.
Mr.Edward Owusu, President of the Association, opened the event with a heartfelt welcome. He acknowledged the collective importance of mental well-being in fostering stronger families, resilient communities, and a brighter future for the next generation. He emphasized that mental health is not a side issue—it is central to the vitality of the community.
“For too long, discussions around mental health have been hushed, sometimes pushed to the background. But today, we are making space for open and honest dialogue,” Owusu stated.
Recognizing that mental health challenges touch everyone, directly or indirectly, the Mmrantie Association, in partnership with Ghanaian community churches, organized this forum with a threefold mission: to listen, learn, and galvanize action.
The meeting provided an opportunity for attendees to speak openly in a safe, respectful environment. The discussions centered on identifying gaps in mental health resources, advocating for accessible support systems, and fostering a culture where seeking help is viewed as a sign of strength rather than shame.
Esteemed panelists—Mrs. Josephine Darko, Mrs. Hilda Bonsu, and Dr. Sarah Duncan guided the conversation, each bringing their expertise to illuminate paths toward mental health awareness and resilience.
The President extended deep gratitude to CFCI for providing a venue at no cost, as well as the Ghanaian community churches and the dedicated organizing committee for making the event possible. Above all, he commended the attendees for their willingness to engage, openness to learning, and commitment to improving the community’s well-being.
The Moderator, Aaron Marfo, set the stage for meaningful conversations and actionable change, reinforcing the shared responsibility of nurturing a healthier, more informed society.
The Mmrantie Association and its partners are firmly committed to championing mental wellness, standing united to ensure that no one in our community faces their struggles alone..
