The Holy See has announced that the inaugural Mass of Pope Leo XIV will be held in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, May 18, at 10:00 AM Rome time. The Mass marks the beginning of the Pope’s pontificate and is a significant event in the Catholic Church.
In the lead-up to the Mass, Pope Leo XIV will meet with various groups, including cardinals, the international press, and diplomatic corps. He will also hold his first general audience on May 21 and take possession of several papal basilicas in Rome.
The Pope has asked the institutions of the Roman Curia to continue in their roles until further notice, while he takes time for reflection, prayer, and dialogue before making any definitive appointments or confirmations.
