Gov’t Assures Prompt Release of Health Sector Funds

The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the timely release of funds for essential health services. He made the assurance during a meeting with the CEO of the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiatives (GAVI), Dr. Sania Nishtar, at the Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Nyarko Ampem emphasized the government’s dedication to the health sector, highlighting the release of GHC30 billion to support the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He also noted the government’s plans to position Ghana as a pharmaceutical hub in the sub-region, creating employment opportunities and adding value to local resources.

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, commended GAVI’s role in strengthening Ghana’s vaccination program, noting that Ghana leads the sub-region in immunization coverage. Dr. Nishtar lauded the government’s efforts in prioritizing healthcare and pledged GAVI’s readiness to provide transition engagement support to ensure a seamless process for Ghana as it prepares to transition from GAVI support by 2030.
