The Asanteman Kingdom and the people of Mampong mourn the profound loss of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, who passed away at the age of 86 , after a brief illness. His reign, which began on August 25, 1996, spanned 26 years of steadfast leadership, during which he upheld the dignity of the Silver Stool of Asanteman, serving as the second in command to Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the revered occupant of the Golden Stool.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II’s influence reached far beyond Ghana’s borders, making a lasting impact on the Ghanaian diaspora. His visit to Chicago, where he was honored as the guest of honor at the then annual GhanaFest , remains an unforgettable chapter in his legacy. Hosted by the Ghana National Council (GNC) of Metropolitan Chicago, his presence was a powerful symbol of unity, connecting Ghanaians abroad with their cultural roots.

In his address to the lively and proud Ghanaian community in Chicago, he commended their exemplary conduct and urged them to continue fostering peace and unity. He emphasized that the relationship between Ghana and the United States could only flourish if Ghanaians abroad upheld their values and heritage—a sentiment that resonated deeply with all who heard him speak.

The occasion, which coincided with the Silver Jubilee celebration of Chicago’s GhanaFest, offered a rich display of Ghana’s vibrant cultural traditions to the American public. Daasebre Osei Bonsu II’s presence underscored the unbreakable connection between Ghana and its diaspora , reminding those abroad to take pride in their identity and their homeland, which has long been recognized as the beacon of hope for the African continent.

The current Asantefuohene, Nana Abayie (Nana Kwame Frimpong), along with Nana Addai Baffour, the Asantefuohene of Chicago at the time of his visit, expressed their heartfelt condolences to Asanteman and the people of Mampong. Their words reflected the collective grief and deep respect for a leader whose wisdom, guidance, and influence transcended borders.

As we bid farewell to Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, we do not merely mourn—we celebrate a life devoted to unity, cultural preservation, and the pursuit of peace. His name will not fade into history but will continue to inspire generations, both in Ghana and across the world.

His wisdom, leadership, and dedication leave behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who were privileged to witness his reign.
