The Paramount Chief of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has passed away at the age of 86 after a short illness. The news of his passing was conveyed to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, by the Bretuo family and the Asante Mampong Traditional Council in accordance with Ashanti traditional rites.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was enstooled as Mamponghene on August 25, 1996, and reigned for 26 years, bringing significant development to the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area. He was recognized for maintaining peace and stability during his reign, notably without any chieftaincy disputes. A lawyer by profession, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) before ascending the Mampong stool.

A delegation, including the Queenmother of the Mampong Traditional Area and the Queenmother of Ejisu, officially informed the Asantehene and the Asantehemaa of his passing, following traditional customs. Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be disclosed in the coming days. The late chief’s last public appearance was during the last Akwasidae held at Mampong, where he rebuked some NDC supporters for planting tribal division in their protest against the selection of an MCE for the Mampong Municipal Assembly.
