The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports circulating on social media that the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, was attacked in Bawku. In a press release, the GAF described the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them. According to the GAF, the COAS’s operational visit to Bawku on April 23, 2025, was successful and without incident.

The GAF has launched efforts to track down the individuals behind the false reports and bring them to justice. The military authority cautioned bloggers, content creators, and the media to be responsible in their reporting on GAF operations in Bawku, warning that misinformation could exacerbate the security situation in the area.

The GAF urged stakeholders to collaborate in restoring normalcy to Bawku and its environs. Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, emphasized the importance of accurate reporting and cooperation in maintaining peace and security in the region. The GAF assured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
