Tamale – Doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have suspended their strike and resumed full medical services after a meeting with Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on Friday, April 25, 2025. The strike, which began on April 23, 2025, had disrupted normal activities at the facility, with doctors suspending emergency and outpatient services in response to a tense incident involving the minister and a doctor.

Following intervention by a high-powered delegation from the palace of the Yaa Naa Abukari II and a meeting with the minister, the doctors’ association issued a statement calling on members to suspend the strike and resume work with immediate effect. The minister has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing challenges in the health sector and has called for unity and collective responsibility among stakeholders.

The minister’s commitment to reform was underscored by a donation of essential medical equipment and supplies to the hospital, including ICU ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infant incubators. The donation forms part of a broader national initiative to modernize medical infrastructure and enhance service delivery in Ghana’s healthcare system. With the strike suspended, services at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have returned to normal.
