Accra – Hundreds of Catholic faithful gathered at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on Friday, April 25, 2025, for a solemn Requiem Mass in honour of the late Pope Francis. The Mass was presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Archbishop Julien Kaboré, who celebrated the life of the Pope, known for his humility, compassion, and advocacy for mercy and justice.
The service drew tributes from Church leaders and government officials, highlighting the profound impact of Pope Francis’ global ministry. The congregation reflected on the Pope’s legacy, which continues to inspire people worldwide. The Mass was a testament to the Pope’s enduring influence and the esteem in which he was held by the Ghanaian Catholic community.
In a related development, Pope Francis was laid to rest today in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, a church that held special significance for the late Pope. He often visited the basilica before and after foreign trips to pray before the icon of Our Lady Salus Populi Romani.
