The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has encouraged the Ho Teaching Hospital to explore public-private partnerships (PPPs) to enhance productivity and address infrastructure gaps. The recommendation was made during a visit by Team 3 of the committee to assess the state of healthcare infrastructure and identify key challenges.
The committee members, led by Hon. Dr. Arhin Ebenezer Prince, urged the hospital’s management to leverage Internally Generated Funds (IGF) more effectively and adopt best practices observed at other institutions. Dr. Simon Dzokoto, Director for Research, Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the hospital, highlighted the facility’s infrastructure challenges and noted that IGF was often used to repay borrowed resources, leaving little for development.
The committee suggested that the hospital replicate the success of other facilities that have used PPPs and IGF to improve their services. They also stressed the need for improved staff accommodation to boost morale and retention. The team’s nationwide assessment tour covers several major health institutions, aiming to evaluate healthcare infrastructure and propose strategies for improvement.
