The World Bank has pledged to support Ghana in addressing its youth unemployment challenge through a new Growth and Jobs Strategy. The initiative aims to create opportunities for over 500,000 young people entering the job market annually, focusing on job creation, skills development, and inclusive economic growth.

This development follows a high-level meeting between World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, and Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The two leaders discussed plans to collaborate on designing and implementing the strategy.

According to Dr. Forson, this partnership marks a significant step forward in Ghana’s efforts to provide decent and sustainable jobs for its youth. Anna Bjerde emphasized that the initiative reflects their shared priority of unlocking opportunities for young people, aiming to build a stronger and more resilient economy.

Ghana’s labor market requires creating approximately 300,000 new jobs annually to keep pace with the growing workforce. The World Bank’s support will be crucial in helping the country achieve this goal and promote inclusive economic growth.
