The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has announced a series of activities to honor the memory of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025. The activities include a National Memorial Mass, local Requiem Masses, and special Holy Hours in honor of the late Pontiff.
The GCBC has called on all clergy, consecrated persons, and lay faithful to unite in prayer and remembrance for the late Pope. The Church has also encouraged schools, seminaries, and other Catholic institutions to host prayer services, talks, or discussions to help the faithful appreciate the life and legacy of Pope Francis.
A statement signed by Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani and President of the GCBC, noted that the activities will be moments of prayerful reflection on Pope Francis’ teachings and witness. The GCBC has also called on the faithful to pray for the repose of Pope Francis’ soul and for the global Church as it prepares to elect his successor.
