Separatist Activities Must Be Condemned-Ben Dotsei Malor

By Ben Dotsei  Malor.

GHANA – THE VOLTA REGION:  Reports of heightened agitation, disruptions, and activities of an alleged secessionist group must be condemned in the strongest terms.

In a month where many of us are celebrating the pan-Africanist ideals of Ghana’s visionary Founder, Osaegyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who fought for the unity of all of Africa, it is unfortunate, ironical, and misguided to see any group seeking to divide Nkrumah’s Ghana.
*
There is no justification, excuse, or viable rationale for these futile agitations that do not have the support of the people of the Volta Region.  There is more that binds us than what separates us.  We are one people, with one common destiny, that is re-inforced in unity.
*
Any acts of violence, instability, and insecurity must be condemned and stopped immediately because they will not serve the interest of our people.
*
For those of us who have served in peacekeeping missions in conflict-affected parts of our continent and the world, and observed the devastating impact of ill-judged armed and violent groups, the emerging developments in parts of the Volta Region bode ill for the people of the region and for Ghana as a whole.
*
In these times of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with less than three months to elections in Ghana, solidarity, unity, and harmony are needed now more than ever.
*
The Government of Ghana must carefully and diligently exercise its responsibility for the peace and security of the people, and any security, intelligence, and political failures contributing to the disruptive activities of those aspiring for secession in the Volta Region must be addressed immediately.  Any grievances (whether real or perceived) that give any grounds for anyone to consider secession must be addressed fully by those in authority.

May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana.
And make our nation great, strong, united, peaceful and prosperous, in harmony.
May God bless our people
Nkosi Sikelel’ Afrika.
