Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced a comprehensive set of economic reforms aimed at providing financial relief, boosting economic growth, and ensuring responsible fiscal management.
The reforms include the repeal of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), which will result in more money in the pockets of Ghanaians. Additionally, the government is implementing tax relief measures, such as the removal of taxes on lottery and betting winnings, and the elimination of VAT on motor insurance.
The government is also redirecting GHS 3.8 billion to critical social programs, including support for schoolgirls, school feeding programs, and vulnerable households. Furthermore, education, healthcare, and infrastructure are set to receive increased funding for hospitals, schools, and road projects.
To ensure responsible fiscal management, the government is introducing stricter financial rules, including a debt cap and a primary surplus. The government is also channeling oil revenues into major infrastructure projects, removing the Emissions Levy, and introducing taxes for mining companies.
According to Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, “These reforms will ease financial burdens, improve public services, and ensure disciplined economic management. We are putting money back into the pockets of Ghanaians while making sure government finances remain strong.”
