Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, received medical treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday, March 29, 2025, after falling ill on Friday, March 28, 2025. According to a statement from the Presidency, the Vice President will seek further medical care abroad, based on expert medical opinion.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang made history in Ghana’s 2024 presidential elections as the country’s first female Vice President, alongside President John Dramani Mahama. Prior to her vice presidency, she served as Minister for Education and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, earning widespread respect and recognition for her dedication to public service.
The Presidency has wished the Vice President a speedy recovery, and many Ghanaians are sending their well wishes and prayers for her swift return to good health.
