In a shocking revelation, patients undergoing dialysis in Ghana have exposed the harsh reality behind the previous government’s promise of free dialysis treatment. Despite assurances that the life-saving procedure would be provided at no cost, patients continue to bear the financial burden, with many struggling to make ends meet.
A friend who undergoes dialysis at a medical facility shared her frustration, urging the government to stop perpetuating the lie. “It’s making life difficult for us,” she lamented. The false promise has had a devastating consequence: benefactors who once provided financial support have withdrawn, citing the government’s assurance that dialysis is free.
This deception has left patients in a precarious situation, forced to rely on their own resources or seek assistance from already overburdened family members. The emotional toll is equally crippling, as patients grapple with the stress of uncertain funding, all while battling a debilitating health condition.
The government’s failure to deliver on its promise has raised questions about accountability and transparency. Patients deserve to know the truth about the services they are entitled to, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide accurate information.
As the dialysis community continues to suffer in silence, it is imperative that the government takes immediate action to address this issue. This includes providing clear guidance on the availability of free dialysis treatment, as well as implementing measures to support patients who are struggling to access this life-saving procedure.
The time for deception is over. It is time for transparency, accountability, and action. The lives of dialysis patients depend on it.
