The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has launched the second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), a global initiative aimed at empowering young people to take action against climate change. The launch, which took place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Accra City Hall, marked a significant step towards supporting youth-led climate projects across the metropolis.
With an additional budget of $100,000, phase two of the YCAF is expected to scale up the impact of community-driven climate solutions. The initiative, which is open to young people aged 15 to 24, aims to provide them with the necessary resources and support to implement climate action projects in Accra.
Speaking at the launch, the Coordinating Director of AMA, Mr. Douglas N.K. Annoful, emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change, describing it as one of the most pressing challenges of modern times. He highlighted the effects of climate change, including unpredictable weather patterns and rising sea levels, which are already being felt globally and in Accra.
The YCAF is part of a broader effort by the AMA to address climate change and promote sustainable development in Accra. The initiative is supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and key international partners, and is expected to make a significant impact in the lives of young people in Accra.
The AMA has invited young people to apply for the YCAF, with the goal of supporting innovative climate action projects that can make a real difference in the community. With the launch of phase two, the AMA is reaffirming its commitment to empowering young people to take action against climate change and promoting a more sustainable future for Accra.
