Four Arrested in Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Western Region

A joint operation by the Rapid Response team of the Forestry Commission and the Police has resulted in the arrest of four individuals engaged in illegal mining in the Tano-Anwia Forest Reserve in the Aowin Municipality of the Western region.

The arrests, which took place today, come after Joy News exposed the rampant illegal mining activities in some forest reserves, including the Tano Anwia Forest reserve, despite government efforts to curb the practice.

The operation seized two excavators and one pickup vehicle, highlighting the scale of the illegal mining operations in the area.

The four individuals arrested comprise two Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians, who were caught in the act of mining in the forest reserve.

The Forestry Commission and the Police have been working together to combat illegal mining in the region, and today’s arrests mark a significant step in their efforts to protect the country’s natural resources.
