The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has applauded the Ghana Police Service for arresting a suspect in connection with the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. The suspect, Daniel Owuusu Koranteng, was arraigned in court on March 19, 2025, and remanded in police custody until April 1, 2025.

This development marks a significant breakthrough in the case, which has been ongoing for over six years. The GJA has been actively pushing for justice for Ahmed Suale, and this arrest is a major step forward.

The GJA particularly commends the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, for their efforts in bringing the suspect to justice.

While the GJA is encouraged by this development, they are also urging the police to continue their efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in Ahmed Suale’s murder. The association hopes that this arrest will be the beginning of a long-awaited search for justice for the slain journalist and relief for media freedom advocates in Ghana and abroad.

The GJA also plans to engage with the police leadership to get more details about the prosecution of the suspect and further investigations into the murder case. Additionally, they will be demanding updates on investigations into other cases of assault against journalists that have gone cold, including Latif Iddrisu’s case.

The international community is also taking notice, with the Federation of African Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists indicating their resolve to take Ahmed Suale’s case to other international forums to seek justice.
