
The Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has signed the book of condolence in honor of the late veteran actor Mawuli Semevo, a celebrated figure in Ghanaian theatre and film. This gesture is a testament to the significant impact Semevo had on Ghana’s arts and culture scene.

The Ghanaian entertainment industry is reeling from the loss of Semevo, who passed away on February 20, 2025, at the age of 63. Semevo succumbed to severe burns sustained in a fire accident at his home in Adenta SSNIT Flats on February 7, 2025.
According to Judith Addison of Beyond Burns International, a non-profit organization that supports burn survivors, Semevo suffered burns covering 44% of his body, including respiratory injuries that severely impacted his ability to breathe. Despite medical efforts, Semevo’s condition deteriorated, and he eventually passed away at Ridge Hospital.
Mawuli Semevo was known for his compelling performances that left a lasting impact on the country’s entertainment industry. His film credits include roles in Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA
Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and fans, with many taking to social media to express their condolences and celebrate Semevo’s remarkable legacy. Ken Fiati, a fellow actor, wrote on Facebook, “Rest In Perfect Peace, Senior Mawuli Semevo”.
