Following the controversial raid on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s home by individuals dressed in military attire, the involvement of the Majority side in Parliament has not been confirmed. However, they have taken steps to issue an apology.

The central issue concerns whether the majority group directed the raid or urged National Security to respond in this way. According to Article 18 of the Ghanaian Constitution, which protects the right to privacy and the sanctity of one’s home, any unauthorized entry is considered a violation of constitutional rights.

Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader, issued an apology on behalf of Parliament, stating that the raid was unacceptable and promising the public that such incidents would not occur again. However, this apology prompts significant questions about the legal justification for the Majority side’s involvement in what ought to be a matter of National Security. It raises the critical issue: does Mahama Ayariga possess information about the raid that he is deliberately keeping from the people of Ghana?

If Jakpa and his team lacked authorization for the raid, it is crucial that National Security take appropriate steps to hold those responsible accountable. This incident highlights the importance of adhering to legal procedures and ensuring that government officials’ actions remain within legal boundaries.

Achieving justice and accountability in Ghana requires a commitment to upholding constitutional rights and ensuring that government actions are legally justified. By adhering to these principles, the nation can create a governance system that is transparent, fair, and respectful of its citizens’ rights.

Events like these could generate significant sympathy for Ken Ofori Attah, potentially undermining the Special Prosecutor’s efforts and jeopardizing the case being built against him.

We implore National Security to exercise the utmost circumspection in their interactions with citizens. It is crucial to recognize that every action taken reverberates through the country, shaping public trust and societal harmony. By treating each individual with dignity, respect, and fairness, we can foster a sense of unity and cooperation that benefits the nation as a whole.

We urge members of the National Security and other law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant in protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens, ensuring that justice and equity are upheld. Together, we can create a more secure, unified, and free society.
