In response to President John Dramani Mahama’s directive on restrictive travel for newly appointed ministers, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has clarified that critical travel for athletes will still be permitted, provided all necessary protocols are followed.

During the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama emphasized the importance of caution and responsibility in travel, citing health and safety concerns ¹. The directive aims to minimize unnecessary travel amid global events that have raised questions about international engagement safety.

However, Minister Adams acknowledged that the sports sector has unique needs that must be considered. “If the travel is critical and necessary, you have to travel,” he stated, highlighting the need to balance the President’s directives with the demands of sporting events that require international participation.

To address these concerns, Adams reassured stakeholders that all travel will be carefully evaluated against established protocols to ensure compliance and safety. This balanced approach aims to support the development of Ghana’s sports sector while maintaining responsibility and caution in international travel.
