A shocking incident unfolded in Ghana’s Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, when Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle Constituency, was allegedly insulted during a parliamentary session. A voice was heard calling her the “daughter of a murderer” while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House.
The remark, believed to have come from behind the Minority Leader, sparked widespread condemnation. Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel George, urged Parliament to take decisive action, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to identify and sanction the culprit.
“We must set a precedent to uphold the integrity of Parliament,” George stated on JoyNews. “This is very easy to do if we are committed.” He called for the use of all available resources, including CCTV footage and forensic voice analysis, to determine who made the remark.
Meanwhile, Damongo MP Samuel Jinapor denied allegations that he was responsible for the remark. “Such language does not reflect my character, and the accusation is completely false,” Jinapor said, clarifying that he does not engage in verbal exchanges across the aisle and always seeks the Speaker’s recognition before making comments in Parliament.
The incident has raised concerns about the level of respect and decorum in Parliament, with many calling for swift action to address the issue.
