Accra, Ghana – The One Ghana Movement has strongly denounced the disruptive and destructive behavior exhibited by members of the vetting committee of Ghana’s 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic. According to the movement, these acts of vandalism and destruction of public property are undignified and represent a clear affront to the nation’s democratic values.

Ministerial vetting, as outlined in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, is an essential process to ensure that nominees for public office possess the necessary competence, integrity, and experience to serve the public interest. This process promotes transparency, safeguards national interests, upholds the principles of checks and balances, and reinforces public confidence in governance.
However, the events of Thursday, January 30, 2025, led by the Minority, did not reflect these ideals. The actions of certain committee members have not only damaged Ghana’s democratic reputation but also eroded public trust in state institutions. Such reckless behavior represents a waste of national resources and demonstrates a lack of respect for the citizens who entrusted these officials with power.
The One Ghana Movement calls on the Speaker of Parliament, the Leadership of Parliament, and the Chairman of the Vetting Committee to take decisive action to maintain order and discipline during this critical national exercise. They also urge the Attorney-General to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the destruction of state property, without fear or favor. This will serve as a deterrent for future attacks on state institutions by public officials who are elected to serve, not destroy.
As a thought leadership and social action organization committed to promoting responsible citizenship, the One Ghana Movement calls on all parliamentarians to demonstrate the highest standards of leadership, accountability, and respect for the people they serve.
