Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Defence Minister-designate, has expressed heartfelt gratitude and relief after completing his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament. This marked his third vetting, having previously undergone the process in 2009 and 2013.
Dr. Omane Boamah acknowledged the committee’s diligence, stating that he didn’t take their scrutiny personally. He emphasized his commitment to defending his convictions, particularly his stance against looting and his criticism of the Electoral Commission Ghana’s handling of past elections.
During his vetting, Dr. Omane Boamah faced intense questioning, including a notable exchange with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who later apologized for a misunderstanding regarding the scheduled start time. The vetting session lasted over seven hours, from 11 am to after 6 pm.
Despite the challenges, Dr. Omane Boamah remained resolute, attributing his strength to the support of his loved ones, friends, and colleagues. He thanked the Appointments Committee for the opportunity and expressed his commitment to serving the nation with integrity.
