In a bid to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to quality education, Ghana’s Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for collective action to address systemic barriers hindering marginalized groups. The Minister emphasized the transformative power of education and the need for collaboration between the government, private sector, international organizations, and communities to break down these barriers.

Historical inequalities and entrenched systems have long marginalized vulnerable populations, including girls, children, and persons with disabilities. However, Ghana remains committed to making education accessible to all, as stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted in 1989. The Minister reiterated Ghana’s focus on access, relevance, and quality education, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The international community has recognized education as the foundation for achieving all 17 SDGs, and Ghana is dedicated to this cause. By working together, the government, private sector, and civil society can dismantle the systematic barriers that prevent marginalized groups from accessing quality education. This collective effort will pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable education system, empowering every individual to reach their full potential.
