President John Dramani Mahama has taken a significant step towards fulfilling his campaign promise of hosting a national economic dialogue within the first 120 days of his administration. To kick-start the preparations, he has established a 7-member team, chaired by renowned economist Dr. Ishmael Yamson .

The team’s primary objective is to plan a national economic dialogue that will bring together stakeholders to discuss Ghana’s pressing economic challenges and chart a path towards sustainable development. The dialogue aims to achieve three key objectives: communicating the true state of Ghana’s economy, developing a homegrown fiscal consolidation program, and highlighting key structural reforms and policy priorities essential for resetting the economy.
The 7-member team comprises distinguished individuals with expertise in various fields, including Dr. K.Y. Amoako, Professor John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir. They have been tasked with delivering results within four weeks, focusing on agenda setting, logistics management, and coordination of top-tier panelists.
President Mahama’s initiative demonstrates his commitment to tackling Ghana’s economic challenges and promoting inclusive growth. The national economic dialogue is expected to provide a platform for constructive debate and consensus-building, ultimately shaping the country’s economic future.
