The Minister of Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, visited the Tema Harbour to assess the situation of approximately 2,500 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) that have been left uncleared for years. These containers, purchased by the previous administration, hold critical materials for energy projects, but have been accumulating demurrage charges of a staggering GHS 1.5 billion.

The Minister expressed his disappointment and frustration, calling the situation “unacceptable.” He emphasized the need for swift action to clear the containers and prevent further financial losses. Jinapor assured the public that resolving this issue would support key energy projects and improve services for Ghanaians.

The situation highlights serious issues with resource management and coordination between agencies. The Minister pledged to take immediate action, stressing the importance of efficient use of national resources to support the country’s development goals. He also assured the public that measures would be taken to prevent such problems in the future.

As the Minister works to clear the containers, Ghanaians can expect improved energy services and a more efficient use of national resources. The Minister’s commitment to addressing this issue is a step in the right direction towards achieving the country’s development goals.
